Sheppey radio DJs on air for 24-hours for Comic Relief

DJs Russell Cashman and Chris Thomas are on a 24-hour radio marathon for Red Nose Day.

The pair of presenters from the Isle of Sheppey went on the air at 7am this morning and are planning to carry on broadcasting throughout the night until 7am tomorrow.

Russell, 63, from Halfway, admitted: "Neither of us have done this before. As for preparing for it, we both snatched all the sleep we could before hand."

The pair have nothing but their own company, listeners' messages and copious cups of coffee to keep them going on community station Sheppey FM.

Russell, who works for Sheppey Matters on its Mobile Matters outreach programme, said: "We plan to broadcast together the whole time. We will both be in the studio but socially distanced."

They turned up at the studio on Sheerness seafront in their pyjamas with alarm clocks and Russell's favourite teddy bear.

They have also set up a donation page linked to the station's Facebook page to collect cash for national Comic Relief charity. They are hoping to raise £500.

The show will go out live on 92.2FM but is also on the station's internet site and on social media channel TikTok.
