The work first began at 8pm on August 17, on the one.network website it is predicted the closure will finish at midnight on Monday, September 26.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: "We’re sorry for any disruption this has caused.

"This was emergency repairs to a burst rising main. The repairs have been completed and tankers have been stood down.

"We are currently waiting on the tarmac as the excavation is 80% backfilled, which means it has been partly refilled with the material that was removed during the work.

"We should be away from the site next week."
