Serious accident in Marine Parade, Sheerness

A driver in his 20s has been cut free from his car following a serious accident this morning.

Emergency services attended the crash at Barton's Point, in Marine Parade, Sheerness, at just after 7am.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove part of the roof of the blue Peugeot after it collided with a lamppost in the single vehicle smash.

An air ambulance landed on the beach nearby, although it is unclear whether they took anyone away.

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known, but he was treated at the scene for chest, back and possible head injuries, before being transferred to Medway Maritime Hospital as a priority case.

The crash is close to where a man was involved in a hit and run last October.
