Sheerness East boss Dave Down wants a win over Kennington on Saturday to set his side up nicely for the second half of the season.

After a shaky start to life in Division 1 East of the Vandanel Kent County League, East have gradually found their feet and after starting the campaign without a win in their opening three league games, have won four of their last five.

East can go third when they visit next-to-bottom Kennington, who lost 4-0 to basement boys Oakwood on Saturday.

They should have little to fear on paper, having already beaten their opponents 3-2 in the Les Leckie Cup first round but Down will not be complacent.

He said: "We will go there expecting a tough game. I know they lost 4-0 to the bottom side but you never know what happens with those results, there could have been any explanation for it.

"We would like to go into the break with a win on Saturday to keep us right up there and set us up nicely for the rest of the season."
