Sheerness East moved up to fourth in the Kent County League, Division 1 East table after comfortably seeing off bottom side Oakwood.

Goals from Ricky Whiting, Glen Sheather and Ben O’Neil sealed the 3-0 win for Dave Down’s Sheerness side, who have now won their last three league outings.

Mathew Longhurst was unlucky not to have put East ahead as he rattled the crossbar twice in the opening half hour.

It was left to Whiting to open the scores as headed home a goal to put East into a deserved lead. Keeper Richard Higgin, however, had to be alert to deny Oakwood with a good save moments later.

Whiting almost doubled his tally shortly after the break but the keeper tipped his effort over the bar. From a short corner Sheather added the second, with a dipping shot from the edge of the box, and O’Neil sealed the win with a tap-in from Craig Holland’s pass.

On Saturday, East face Premier Division side Stansfeld O&B Club in the third round of the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield.
