Van crashes during police chase

A MAN has been detained by police after crashing a van in High Street, Sheerness.

It is believed he was being chased by up to five police vehicles at the time.

The man, who was shouting threats, was carried from the scene by several police officers before being put in a police van.

He is currently being detained in Maidstone.

Speaking shortly after the 5.50pm incident, one eyewitness said: "It looked like all hell was breaking loose, there were police all over the place.

"The van crashed in the High Street, just down from the clock tower and the police carried him away."

A police spokesman declined to comment, saying the matter was still under investigation.
