A wind farm is being proposed in Eastchurch, close to an existing site which opened in February.

Airvolution Energy Limited is looking at the possibility of building four turbines, measuring 126m from base to blade tip.

New Rides Farm in Eastchurch, which is on a private path off Leysdown Road has been allocated as the site.

It runs parallel to Church Road, where two 121m electricity generators were installed on land belonging to HMP Standford Hill earlier this year.

The company, which specialises in developing small wind energy projects, is inviting residents to find out more about the project at a community information day at Eastchurch village hall on Thursday, September 26 from 1pm to 7pm.

It claims the project, which has not yet been submitted for planning permission, would generate a “significant amount of clean, renewable energy”.

Airvolution offers a community benefit fund with its projects.

It says the four structures would provide around £40,000 per year for investment in things like local groups, young people and infrastructure. This would equate to around £1m over the expected 25-year lifetime of the project.

Communications manager Alison Hood said: “We are very keen to introduce ourselves to the local community and to hear from residents how we might use this project to invest in the area’s future in addition to bringing clean energy infrastructure to Sheppey.

“We will display information about our proposals, and show what the turbines would look like from various viewpoints.”

Mike Brown, of Eastchurch Parish Council, said he and fellow members had not yet seen the plans and would need to discuss them at a meeting before making a comment.
