A charity water zorbing event at Sheppey Leisure Complex on Saturday has raised more than £700 for four good causes.

Sheppey Sea Cadets will be one of those benefiting from the day, with £105 pledged in sponsorship.

Adam Steele from the cadets was the fastest man at the event, completing the course in a time of 33 seconds.

Ten people took part in the north Kent water zorbing challenge, which also raised money for The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice, Sittingbourne MS Society and the children’s road safety department of the KM Charity Team.

Simon Dolby, of the KM Charity Team, which staged the event, said: “Challengers stepped inside a giant inflatable sphere and then raced each other across the 25m length of the pool.

“Each participant was able to opt for the main charity of their choice, with 70 per cent of proceeds going to their chosen cause and 30 per cent to the KM Charity Team.

“Providing all the sponsorship pledges come in, a total of £762 will be divided between the causes after event costs.”

  • The charity challenge was sponsored by Barclays bank and Southern Water.
