A family has thanked people for donating tens of thousands of pounds to help them make memories with their six-year-old daughter who has been diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Joe and Elisha Smith from Minster, on Sheppey, received devastating news in May that their “princess” Joules had just months to live.
Family friend and TOWIE star Kirk Norcross set up a fundraising page in June in the hope of raising money so the Smiths could enjoy every moment with each other.
Since then, people have donated more than £71,000.
This came after the family first noticed Joule's symptoms during a week-long trip to Center Parcs with Kirk.
Dad Joe said her balance was off, her eyes didn’t look right and she had a head tilt to one side.
They took her home and then to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham on May 10 where doctors performed tests which all came back clear.
But just a day later they were back at the hospital when the Minster Primary School pupil’s symptoms worsened.
A scan was done and her parents were told it showed a mass on her brain.
Joe said: “We just looked at each other and cried.
“Our world since that minute has never been the same.”
The six-year-old was rushed to King's College Hospital in London where she was diagnosed with midline glioma - an aggressive brain tumour.
It was there they were told Joules had just nine months to live.
The funds have allowed the family to make the most of Joules being well after her health improved since undergoing radiotherapy.
They have been to Elmley Nature Reserve, as well as a getaway to Center Parcs, beach trips and parties with her friends where Disney princesses and Stitch came to meet her.
The Smiths are also heading to Lincoln for a week spending a couple of nights on a farm in Windsor and then have a trip to Glen Eagles Hotel in Scotland booked.
Joe, boss of Total Landscape Ltd, has thanked people who have donated to the GoFundMe page and the community for supporting the family.
On June 21, Sheppey United held a charity football match at Holm Park with all funds going to the family while Miss Lauren’s Dance company, which Joules attended, also held a fun day in her honour on June 23.
Joe said: “We are making as many memories as we can and would love to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated.
“Also thank you to all the people who have ran events for her like her dance group’s funday and local football clubs.
“We have also had shops around the Island raising money so everyone’s support has been amazing and it’s so comforting to see how loved she is.
“She really is the most beautiful little soul.”
