Air Ambulance lands after crash on Avenue of Remembrance

An elderly pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a motorbike on a busy road.

Police confirmed it happened on the Avenue of Remembrance, opposite the Sainsbury's car park, at 4.17pm.

An air ambulance was scrambled and is believed to have landed in the grounds of Borden Grammar School.

The man, in his 70s, has since been taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Police have closed the road between the Sainsbury’s car park and the junction with Bell Road.

Witnesses said three ambulances and several police cars were at the scene, which has prevented vehicles from reaching the supermarket and Swallows leisure centre.

Paramedics were said to be still at the scene at 5.25pm treating the casualty.

The accident is expected to cause major traffic problems across the town.
