Armed officers and the police helicopter were called after a man was reportedly seen holding a weapon.

Firearms teams descended on Church Road in Murston, Sittingbourne after the alarm was raised just after 8pm.

A police spokesman said: "Armed officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area with assistance from a National Police Air Service helicopter.

"Nobody fitting the man’s description was located and no further reports were received."

A witness reported seeing a police firearms unit preparing equipment in Sittingbourne, before turning on their blue lights and rushing to the scene along with a patrol car.

The helicopter was also spotted circling overhead.
