Sittingbourne teen accused of trying to murder girl who was allegedly stabbed 'around 50 to 60 times' will stand trial next year

A Sittingbourne teenager accused of trying to murder a 16-year-old with a physical disability has appeared in court.

The youngster – who cannot be named for legal reasons – spoke only to confirm his name and age during the 30-minute hearing.

He did not enter a plea to a charge of attempted murder after his barrister explained the defence needed more reports.

The hearing, at Maidstone Crown Court, was postponed until November 1 when the 16-year-old defendant is expected to enter his formal plea.

The alleged victim – who also can't be named – is still in hospital after receiving multiple stab wounds.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in a secluded park known as The Orchard on Wednesday, July 21 and early morning on July 22.

The young girl wasn't found until around 8am on Thursday, July 22, by a member of the public who rang the police.

At court this morning, no application for bail was made and Judge Charles Gratwicke remanded the defendant into custody after setting a provisional date for a 10-day trial on January 10, 2022.
