Fire crews called to Merleburgh Drive and Ridham Avenue, Kemsley

Firefighters have been responding to garden waste alight and a suspicious blaze.

One fire engine was sent to Merleburgh Drive, Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, yesterday at about 3.30pm.

They found brambles alight in a brazier container which was under control.

However, as it was in a shared space, the crews had to put it out by throwing two buckets of water over it.

They were then sent to Ridham Avenue, also in Kemsley, at about 4.50pm where they found cardboard and pallets had been set alight.

Emergency workers spent about 30 minutes putting the fire out. No injuries were reported.

Police are investigating the cause, which is being treated as suspicious.
