Sittingbourne: Car and lorry involved in serious crash on A249

A car and a lorry have been involved in a collision on the A249 near Sittingbourne.

The accident happened on the Sheppey-bound carriageway at about 10.15am.

It is believed the car, a Ford Mondeo, had broken down and was in the inside lane when the lorry crashed into it.

Media sales executive Ed Baker stopped to help give first aid.

"The female driver of the Mondeo had glass cuts on her arm," he said.

"She was in the car when the lorry hit. She said her car had just completely died and the lorry just came straight smacking into her."

A van also lost control and skidded to a halt.

Police and ambulance crews were called. A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "All patients got out of the vehicles themselves.

"Everyone was checked over and discharged at the scene. No one required hospital treatment."
