Money will pave way for resurfacing at Milsted village hall’s car park

Funds to resurface Milsted village hall’s car park have been given a boost.

It’s estimated £250 was raised after more than 30 people attended a social morning held at the venue in Horn Hill on Saturday.

Visitors were able to browse and buy from a variety of stalls selling bric-a-brac, cakes and books. A ploughman’s lunch and meat raffle were also available.

It is the fourth event of its kind to be organised by the village hall committee to raise the money for the work. Collectively they have raised £1,000.

Kent County Council has also awarded it a grant of about £5,000 to help towards the overall cost of £11,500. It’s hoped half of the repairs will be carried out later this year with the rest being completed early in 2015.

Chairman Keith Jordan said: “It was a good day, everyone enjoyed it, especially the ploughman’s so we plan to do that again. In the past we just served tea and cakes.

“This year we started and finished later, usually it’s 10am to noon but on Saturday it was held 11am to 2pm and I think we had a few more people as a result.

“We’re going to hold another one in the hall on June 22 when Milstead and Frinsted Primary School will also hold a fete on the field and the St Mary and the Cross Church is open. Times are yet to be arranged.”
