The Messenger’s very own weatherman has filed his report for June.

Jeremy Procter measures the elements at his home in Cobham Avenue, Sittingbourne, using a Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station, which gives him accurate, daily information.

Using sensors linked to his computer, the equipment gives rainfall, temperature, humidity and pressure readings.

He also has an anemometer – a wind speed indicator – on a mast on his roof. The sensors record data and wirelessly feed it to a control box. He can then access a programme which enables him to monitor, interpret and analyse the results.

Speaking about last month, the former master mariner said: “June is supposed to be the start of summer and to some extent we did have some warm days particularly in the latter part of the month.

“Overall, the month was 0.2C cooler than June 2012 but also much drier.

“When examining the Met Office data for the area, the conditions we experienced were pretty close to the norm.

“Once again easterly winds tended to keep the temperatures down in the first couple of weeks.”
