Would you get a tattoo of a company logo in exchange for a freebie?

Well, a father-of-two from Sittingbourne has done just that.

Andy Palmer runs a marketing and consultancy company, webmarketingkent.co.uk, and saw an offer from American web firm The Hoth.

It was for 32 customers to get a tattoo of its logo and in return receive $3,000 of credits to use on search engine optimisation services.

Mr Palmer, who is 38, thought it was a great idea and decided to go under the needle.

He said: “This was a good opportunity for injecting some activity into my business and now there’s a competition for whoever has the best one to win $2,500 cash.

“I just thought you only live once so I’ll give it a go but it’s really divided people. Some of my friends think I’m crazy.”

The design he chose was the firm’s red mascot – a red creature – who is on a laptop, eating pizza and listening to music, which Mr Palmer said were all things he “likes anyway”.

He plans to use the credits to boost both his own websites and those of his clients.

Luke Fitzgerald, at GB Tattoos in Erith, was trusted with applying the ink about a month ago, with The Hoth reimbursing the cost.

Although it wasn’t his first, he said the nerves really kicked in as Luke began to do tattoo, which about the size of a palm and put on his shoulder.

He added: “I’ve used The Hoth’s services before and I follow them because I like the cut of their jib.

“I’m sure it’ll remain relevant for a few more weeks, or hopefully years, anyway!”

Will he be getting another tattoo for anyone else? Maybe.

“I would have another one but if it wasn’t relevant to my business it would have to be a lot of money,” he said.
