A butcher has described how he narrowly avoided being hit by a flying bumper on the A249.

Keith Downes, who works at MB Farms at Stockbury, was driving behind a car heading towards Maidstone which crashed near the Indian restaurant at about 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday).

He said: “A car in the right-hand lane hit the curb and spun round. It happened so quickly.

"The bumper came flying off across the road and missed me by a couple of inches. It could have had me as well.”

A police spokesman said the collision involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a Jaguar and a man was left with a cut hand.

He was treated by medics at the roadside. Firefighters from Maidstone arrived but the drivers of the vehicles were not trapped.

Traffic was slowed in both directions by police and the road was cleared by 6.05pm.
