An illegal electricity supply to a gipsy site has been disconnected.

EDF Energy Network engineers arrived at the site in Oak Lane, Upchurch, on Wednesday morning to carry out the work.

They were accompanied by police officers.

A spokesman for EDF said: "Due to illegal interference with the electricity distribution network the supply has been disconnected to make it safe.

"We have left the residents with a letter advising them how to go about arranging a safe reconnection."

Kent police said: "Officers from Sittingbourne police station attended the site to provide support while EDF Energy Network's staff carried out their work. No incidents occurred at the caravan site during this time."
