A tumble dryer is thought to have caused the blaze.

Theo Brinkman, who lives at the address with his wife and their two teenage daughters, said he discovered the fire after returning home from a trip to the shops.

He said: "I came back to find two lads knocking on my door saying there's a fire in my garage.

"It was only a small fire at first, but within seconds it was full flame.

"We phoned the fire brigade, they were really quick.

"But unfortunately our whole garage has burnt down."

Two appliances, one from Sittingbourne, the other from Sheppey, attended the blaze which was extinguished by 10.30am.

No one was injured.

Mr Brinkman, 48, who's lived at the address for 10 years, said: "I've got every trip switch going in the garage and external trip switches, but it didn't stop the fire.

"I would say to people, because of the heat element, only use tumble dryers when you're around."
