House fire spreads in Monarch Drive, Kemsley

Dramatic pictures have emerged of a house fire, which is thought to have started in a garage.

Firefighters were called to Monarch Drive, Kemsley, at about 2.20pm this afternoon when it broke out

They used breathing apparatus while controlling the blaze and cleared smoke using a fan.

Crews from Sheerness Fire Station tackled the fire in the garage, where it had started.

They then started moving up where it had spread to the first and second floor.

No injuries were reported and it is not yet clear what caused it.

Crews had left by about 3.50pm.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service crew manager, Andy Friday, said: "There's damage from the garage up to the second and third floor.

"The cause of fire is under investigation.

"The location was easy to find from the massive plume of smoke, we could see it from the bridge.

"Residents were looked after by neighbours."

A Sheerness Fire Station spokesman said the occupants were not in the house when firefighters arrived.
