Kiss fan Gary Underdown is taking inspiration from Gene Simmons as he bids to raise cash for Help for Heroes

A fan of the glam rock band Kiss is hoping to put a smile on the face of shoppers.

Gary Underdown will be sporting make-up and a replica pair of destroyer boots, as worn by lead singer Gene Simmons, when he carries out a collection in aid of charity at the town’s Morrisons store.

The 26-year-old, of Watling Place, Sittingbourne, will be at the entrance of the supermarket between 9am and 6.30pm on Thursday, April 24, selling Help for Heroes products such as wristbands and T-shirts.

He will also parade up and down the aisles in the fancy footwear while carrying a pot for people to drop their loose change into.

Joining him on the day will be his girlfriend Sophie Gibbard. The 26-year-old, of Warden Road, Eastchurch, bought him the platforms as a Christmas present. They came from America and are worth £500.

His friend Rebecca Duffy, 34, from Sheerness, who is a professional make-up artist, will also be there doing face painting in return for a donation.

Mr Underdown, general manager at Judd’s Folly Hotel, London Road, Faversham, said: “I’m collecting for Help for Heroes at work at the moment and I’m a big fan of Kiss.

"So when they recently announced they’re touring and some of the profits were going to the charity I thought it was a good opportunity to tie the two together.

“I’ve always liked them. My dad [Alan] has been a follower since the 1970s and he got me into them. I’ve even thought about having a Kiss tattoo but I’ve not gone down that road yet.

“It will be the boots’ first outing as they’re kept in a display cabinet at home. My girlfriend is worried I’m going to ruin them. I just want to raise as much attention as possible.”
