A249 delays at Stockbury roundabout after three-car crash

A three-car crash led to "total gridlock" on a busy road this evening.

The A249 southbound was partially blocked in both directions after the accident at the Stockbury / Sittingbourne roundabout.

Three vehicles are reported to have been involved in the smash at junction 5 of the M2.

Eyewitnesses posting on Facebook warned others to avoid the road, saying there were "loads of ambulances" at the scene following the "bad accident".

Others said the route was gridlocked.

Police was called at around 5.25pm following the collision and officers arranged for the vehicles to be recovered.

A road closure was in place until debris was also cleared from the scene.

No serious injuries were reported.

According to the Inrix traffic service, the road was cleared at 8.19pm and traffic returned to normal.
