Crash on M2 between Sittingbourne and Faversham causes delays

Traffic ground to a halt on the M2 after a crash.

The accident happened on the coast-bound side between junctions 5 for Sittingbourne and 6 for Faversham just before 9am.

The road was partially blocked, causing long tailbacks.

It had cleared by 10.30am.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 8.26am on Wednesday 6 December following a single vehicle collision between junctions 5 and 6 on the M25.

"Officers attended the scene. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment."

It comes after a lorry crashed into a barrier and spilt 700 litres of fuel across the carriageway between junctions 2 for Rochester and 3 for Chatham in the early hours.

That stretch of the motorway remains closed while the clean-up operation continues.
