Sittingbourne: Investigation underway after hole appears in A2 near Swanstree Avenue

A hole has appeared on the A2 in Sittingbourne - but a collapsed sewer has been ruled out as the cause.

Temporary traffic lights have been set up around the void, which is believed to have appeared this morning in Canterbury Road.

A Kent County Council spokesman said: "There’s a subsidence on the A2 near to Swanstree Avenue, on the Faversham-bound side."

Engineers from Southern Water arrived at about 11.30am and used a camera to check a sewer and found no fault with it.

A spokesman for the water company said its staff were there until 2.45pm when the problem was left in the hands of Kent Highways.

Drivers were warned to expect delays in the area.
