Landmark pipes removed

Pipes which used to carry water to Sittingbourne paper mill are now a thing of the past.

Work was carried out overnight on Sunday to remove the equipment which formed a bridge over Mill Way.

The removal of the pipes is part of demolition work currently being carried out by London-based developer, Essential Land, as part of a £30 million project to transform the site.

Aspects of the scheme include homes, a Morrisons supermarket, waterside park, plus a museum to commemorate the history of the mill.

A planning application for the plans is expected to be submitted to Swale council next month.
