M2 London-bound slip road at Stockbury Roundabout along A249 for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone to close

The M2 junction 5 London-bound slip road will be closed this weekend as work continues on the £92 million revamp of Stockbury roundabout.

National Highways has confirmed the exit will be sealed off from Friday for barrier repairs, which aren’t related to the upgrade taking place, along the route for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone.

The announcement comes a month after the coastbound entry and exit of the M2 at Junction 5 reopened.

A spokesman said: "Over the weekend of March 17, our maintenance teams will be carrying out some essential barrier repair works.

"These works are currently programmed in from 8pm on Friday until 5am on Monday, March 20.

"There will also be some overnight lane closures on the main M2 to facilitate these works. During the day, two lanes will be kept open."

The full closure comes at the same time as the closure of the A249 Maidstone-bound between the Stockbury roundabout and Bobbing.

It will also be closed from 8pm on Friday until 5am on Monday, March 20.

There will also be some overnight lane closures on the main M2 to facilitate these works. During the day, two lanes will be kept open.

The closures come after it was recently announced other closures of the major route have been extended.

Officials say the recent series of weekend closures north of Junction 5 of the M2 have allowed them to move "ahead of schedule".

The scheme – which will see a new flyover for traffic travelling between Maidstone and Sittingbourne and re-configured slip-roads added to the route – promises to cut queues along the frequently congested A249.

In January, drone pictures revealed what progress had been made at the site ahead of the reopening of the newly designed slip roads.

The A249 Maidstone-bound between the Stockbury roundabout and Bobbing will also be sealed off overnight from 8pm tonight, until 5am on Wednesday, March 15, and from 8pm on March 27 until 5am on March 31.

There will also be two other weekend closures of the A249 Maidstone- bound between the Stockbury roundabout and Bobbing from 8pm on Friday, March 24, until 5am on Monday, March 27, and from 8pm on Friday, March 31, until 5am on Monday, April 3.

During these closures, there will be intermittent lane closures on the A249 Sheppey-bound between Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabout, with a lane remaining open.
