Man arrested after drink and laptops stolen from Sittingbourne's Central Park greyhound stadium

A man has been charged after a break-in at a dog-racing stadium.

Liam Wood, 32, of Crown Quay Lane, Sittingbourne, was arrested after a break-in at the town's Central Park greyhound stadium on new year's day.

Police say alcohol, including bottles of spirits, three laptops and a tip jar containing £100 were stolen from the sports venue in Church Road, Murston, overnight on Sunday, January 1.

There was also damage caused to the premises estimated at several thousands of pounds.

Wood was arrested by officers from the Swale local policing team on Monday (Jan 30) after a man was seen walking around Bourne Place car park in Sittingbourne and trying vehicle door handles.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "The suspect is also alleged to have tried to steal a bike from outside Sittingbourne train station."

Wood faces four counts of burglary, going equipped for theft, two counts of vehicle interference and the attempted theft of a bike.

He was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place. He was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday). Jan 31
