It said: “We want to reassure you that all government guidance has been followed and that during this time of national concern we’re working hard to do our bit to help minimise the spread of coronavirus.

“We have followed our procedures in place on how to manage and respond to a confirmed case, based on guidance from Public Health England.”

Concerned colleagues were told to call a support number.

A Morrisons spokesman said: “A single colleague has tested positive for the Coronavirus and we wish them a speedy recovery.”

Asked whether other members of staff had been told to self-isolate as a result of exposure to the infected person, they did not respond before going to press.
