Murston murder: Family's fresh appeal

Relatives of a man killed in a brutal and unprovoked single-punch attack have made an emotional plea for witnesses to come forward. Chief reporter Hayley Robinson spoke to Adrian Milner’s family and friends as they renewed their appeal for information.

It was just three days after Christmas when the father of two was attacked as he walked home after a night out.

He had been for a drink with friend Michael Coomber and the pair were walking along Church Road, Murston, at 7.53pm when Adrian was punched in the face.

The blow caused Adrian, a lorry driver with London Kent Metals in Sittingbourne, to fall and hit his head.

He died from his injuries at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in central London 12 days later and a murder investigation was launched.

The 48-year-old, who was known as Ada to friends, was born and bred in Sittingbourne. His parents Albert and Sylvia still live in the town.

Last week Adrian’s family and friends called on Murston residents to help find the man who attacked him.

His brother Duncan Milner, who lives in Sittingbourne, said: "We just want justice for Ada so he can rest in peace.

"The incident happened at a very busy location in Murston it would be nice to think somebody will have something.

"If there’s no prosecution then he died for absolutely nothing.

"We want the man responsible for the attack to come forward.

"We have not been able to move on from this, knowing that the offender is still out there and able to continue his life as if nothing has happened.

"Adrian’s death has brought much sorrow and heartache to the whole family and his absence has left a big hole in our lives. We love him and miss him so much."

He has been with his partner Gemma Stuttard for two years, but the pair had known each other for 14 years.

Gemma said she and her 11-year-old daughter Molly, who he lived with in the town, are still trying to come to terms with his death.

She said: "It’s affected me quite badly it’s not something you expect to happen.

"She [Molly] was very, very close to him she’s coping well but she misses him the same as we all do.

"We believe someone knows something."

The attacker is white, about 30, of stocky build, with brown wavy shoulder-length hair.

He was wearing a dark jacket, carrying a white shopping bag and may have been wearing a hat.

New CCTV images have been released of men police believe may be able to help them with their investigation.

Det Insp Lee Whitehead, of the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate’s major crime unit, said: "Mr Milner and his friend Michael Coomber had been in the New Inn, Murston Road, Murston, that evening and were walking home along Church Road when a third man punched Mr Milner in the face.

"At this stage we believe it to be a completely unprovoked attack. We continue to analyse CCTV footage of the evening, not just in Church Road but further afield, which is why we are releasing these new images in a bid to bring forward new key witnesses who could help us reveal the identity of the offender.

"I would urge people to study the images closely to see if they recognise those in the photos. Those pictured may wish to contact us themselves to rule themselves out of the enquiry."

Anyone with information about the incident, on Tuesday, December 28, is asked to contact Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate on 01622 654852 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously.

A 30-year-old Sittingbourne man arrested in connection was due back at Sittingbourne police station this afternoon (Thursday).
