An angry parent who threatened a Sittingbourne senior school head teacher has been given an 18-month community order and told to attend therapy sessions to control his aggressive behaviour.

Lorry driver Trevor Jones, 36, blew his top after calling at Westlands School on March 20 to resolve an issue over one of his children.

Jones, of Keycol Hill, Bobbing, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour against head teacher Jon Whitcombe when he appeared at Sittingbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard Jones arrived to speak to teachers but quickly became aggressive towards Mr Whitcombe and vice principal Matthew Lewis.

He started shouting and swearing and was asked to leave the premises.

Jones got into his car and shouted: “We’ll sort this out on Tuesday.”

He was warned he was now barred from the school, but Jones then got out of his car and told Mr Whitcombe: “I’m going to hit you.”

Mr Lewis intervened, but Jones continued to behave aggressively before finally returning to his car and driving off.

Police were called and Jones was arrested.

Defence solicitor Peter Fernando, said: “He regrets this happening, there was a misunderstanding caused by a previous incident.”

But magistrates’ chairman Alan Austen told Jones: “This was a very, very nasty offence that took place on school premises.”

He called for a fast service probation report on Jones who has a previous conviction for a similar offence, and was warned he could face jail.

But the bench opted for an 18-month community order, which will include 18 sessions of aggression replacement training.

Jones was also ordered to pay £80 court costs.

Mr Austen told him: “These were school teachers doing a very difficult job and they were put in great fear.”
