Police called after man spotted acting suspiciously near Sittingbourne's Kings Nursery

Police were called after a man was spotted acting suspiciously near a children’s nursery.

Concerned onlookers took to Facebook to alert others about the man who was seen near Kings Nursery in Park Avenue, Sittingbourne, at about 3pm yesterday.

They said he also approached a parent who was standing on their own.

Due to the distress on social media, manager Dawn Austin shared an urgent notice on the nursery’s Facebook page this morning.

She said: “We would like to notify everyone that the incident yesterday in King George’s Park is being dealt with by the police.

“The police are talking to the parent who was approached to find out the correct information.

“The incident happened prior to our children leaving the building and at no time was there any danger to our children – we follow strict safeguarding procedures to keep our children safe at all times.”

She added: “A letter will be sent to all our parents explaining the course of yesterday’s events. Please speak to a member of staff if you have any further concerns.”

Police have today confirmed no further action is necessary.

A spokesman said: “Kent Police received a third party report which said a man was behaving suspiciously in Park Avenue, Sittingbourne, at 3.05pm on Wednesday.

“The man is reported to have been seen speaking with a woman who was sitting in a car.

“Officers have fully assessed the circumstances and established the man is not alleged to have made any threats or said anything inappropriate.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.”
