Police re-issue appeal for witnesses to churchyard 'rape' in Sittingbourne High Street

Police want to speak to a potential witness who spoke to a woman after she had been "raped" in a churchyard.

The alleged attack happened outside St Michael's Church in Sittingbourne High Street between 1.28am and 1.58am of Sunday, August 14.

Detectives say it was a busy night, and there may have been a number of people in the area who have not yet spoken to them.

They particularly want to speak to two men who were seen walking along the High Street at around 1.30am, near the junction with Bell Road and Crown Quay Lane, before going into a nightclub.

They were both wearing light blue jeans. One is described as wearing a light denim short sleeved shirt with black hair. The other was wearing a light coloured short sleeved shirt and had short cropped hair.

Officers also want to talk to a man who was seen walking out of an access road opposite a carpet shop.

This man then crossed the road and spoke to the victim at a bus stop at around 2.06am.

He then walked away into East Street, Sittingbourne. He has been described as wearing dark coloured shorts, a chequered long sleeved shirt, and had dark hair and dark coloured beard.

Supermarket worker George Orwa, 32, of Agate Court, Sittingbourne, was charged with rape on Saturday 20 August.

He has been remanded to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Monday.
