Maths challenge hosted by the Westlands School in Sittingbourne attracts students from across Kent

Brainpower was tested to the full when 27 teams took part in an all-day maths challenge.

Pupils from secondary schools across Kent travelled to the Westlands School, Sittingbourne, on Thursday for the second competition of its kind.

Participants had to take part in four rounds, each of which involved solving thought-provoking problems.

A section that proved particularly tricky challenged the youngsters to spot a sequence of numbers.

The competition ended on an energetic high, with students running round the school hall, to answer maths questions displayed on the walls.

In the end, Rainham Mark Grammar emerged winners with 146 points, Maidstone Grammar was second with 117 and Highsted B third with 115.
