Sittingbourne manager Gary Abbott says the character in his side is what is keeping the Brickies’ slim promotion hopes alive.

Bourne have won five of their last seven games in Ryman League, Division 1 South, including back-to-back wins at Worthing on Saturday and against Fleet at Bourne Park on Tuesday – coming from behind each time.

They sit ninth, just five points outside a play-off berth, with four games left.

Abbott (pictured) said: "The boys are working hard. We got off to a bad start again but we came back for the second game in a row which shows the character we have in the squad.

"We have a tough game at home to Walton & Hersham on Saturday but there is no pressure on us.

"It’s going to be difficult for us to get into the play-offs – we’d have to win all four games and hope other teams slip-up – but we’ll keep going and see how far we can get."
