Move over Paul Hollywood, there’s a new baker in town and he’s coming to a TV screen near you soon.

Colin Hopper is among the stars of a new Morrisons' advert which will coincide with the start of a new series of Britain’s Got Talent.

The dad-of-two, who works at the supermarket giant’s new store in Mill Way, Sittingbourne, was chosen to appear in Morrisons Got Talent, a two-minute spoof of the popular ITV1 show.

In it, he bakes a loaf of focaccia bread which is given a Simon Cowell-style critique by a panel of judges.

Colin, of London Road, Teynham, had to pass a series of auditions and a screen test before being chosen as one of only two bakers to be invited to a filming session in London.

He said being “plastered in make-up” for the 12-hour session wasn’t a lot of fun.

But he joked it might help give Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, recently voted TV’s sexiest baker, a run for his money in the popularity stakes.

The 41-year-old said: “Making bread in front of the TV cameras was completely different to what I do on a day-to-day basis and a little nerve-racking.

“But the way things have gone for Paul Hollywood, you never know what it might lead to.

“Britain’s sexiest baker? I’m now officially disputing that!”

It’s not the first time Morrisons has used their talented baker to front an advertising campaign.

When the Mill Way store opened in January it was Colin’s face beaming from posters at bus stops and billboards around town.

As well as raising his own profile, the latest claim to fame will provide another reason to boast for his two children Cody, 14, Jaycee, 11.

Colin, who has worked at Morrisons for 14 years, said: “In 2011, I was part of the team which won Best Instore Bakery at the British Baker Awards, so it’s been a good couple of years for me.

“My children are very proud, they told all their friends their dad was on a poster in town, now they can say he’s going to be on the telly.”

A start date has yet to be announced for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent, so Colin’s TV debut will remain in the can for now.
