Traffic released on M2 London-bound between junction 5 for Stockbury and junction 4, near Gillingham

Traffic was temporarily held on a motorway due to a multi-vehicle crash.

There were long delays on the M2 London-bound from junction 5 for the Stockbury Roundabout, near Sittingbourne, to junction 4 A278 Hoath Way, Gillingham.

The accident, which is understood to involve multiple vehicles, happened at around 10am.

It has been reported traffic was briefly able to pass, but was then held again.

The AA Roadwatch says there were severe delays of 38 minutes, with an average speed of five mph.

At around 11am all cars were released and traffic is now easing.

A driver who passed the scene of the incident described seeing “around five or six cars all shunted into one another”.

Police patrols were not required to attend and the incident is being dealt with by highways officers.
