An “ugly looking” man who tended to a woman after she was violently sick in a town shop is believed to have then stolen her purse.

Gill Smith was at the pharmacy area inside Boots, in Sittingbourne High Street, when she became unwell.

She dropped the money holder, which was in her hand, on the counter as she grabbed it to steady herself.

It is understood a man who was behind her then stepped forward and put his arm around her, asked if she was all right and offered her a tissue before leaving.

Shortly afterwards, the 50-year-old grandmother of two, who is registered disabled, realised the purse had been taken.

It contained £3 in cash, bank cards, a photo card driving licence, family photos and other sentimental keepsakes.

CCTV footage revealed the supposedly ‘good samaritan’ did make off with it. The theft happened between 9am and 9.30am on Wednesday last week.

The man is described as late 20s to early 30s, with possible acne scars on his face, and about 6ft.

He was wearing a woven winter cap which was either navy blue or black, a black jacket, light blue jeans and black shoes.

Mrs Smith’s daughter and full-time carer, Tara Oliver, is appealing for help from the public.

The married 20-year-old, who lives with her mother in Sittingbourne, said: “I’m sickened and very angry that someone could do this, especially when she was unwell.

“We would urge anyone who has any information to come forward or, if anyone finds the purse or any of the items from it, please hand them into the police.

“She has been left very shaken by it all and feels violated.”
