A man is recovering in hospital with head injuries after a row in the middle of a Murston street.

Police are carrying out house to house inquiries after the argument on the corner of Tonge Road and Church Road at just before 8pm last night.

The 48-year-old was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital and later transferred to London, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Detective Inspector Emma Banks from Mid Kent's area major enquiry team said: "The victim was out with a friend for the evening when the incident happened.

"We understand that some kind of altercation took place between a third person and the victim, during which the victim sustained a head injury, although the full details are still being established. At this stage it appears that this was an isolated incident between two people."

Anyone who was in the area yesterday evening and may have seen what happened should contact Sittingbourne Police Station on 01795 419161 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
