Police appeal for witnesses after woman, 28, dies in fatal collision with lorry in Kemsley near Sittingbourne

Witnesses are sought to a fatal collision in which a woman died near Sittingbourne.

The 28-year-old driver of a red Nissan Qashqai died following a collision with a yellow Mercedes lorry in Swale Way, Kemsley, at around 7.30am yesterday.

The road near Sittingbourne was shut for more than five hours after the accident between the Iwade and Kemsley turn-off on the A249, and Barge Way.

Officers, along with ambulance crews and firefighters were at the scene shortly after the incident, with the air ambulance arrive just over an hour later.

A police spokesman said: "Following the collision, the driver of the car, a 28-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been made aware.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are continuing to investigate and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"In particular they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed either vehicle leading up to the collision or who has dash camera footage of the vehicles in the moments before the incident."
