Kent Air Ambulance called to car crash in Castle Road, Murston in Sittingbourne

Two women had to be cut free from the car they were travelling in after it was in collision with a van.

Police closed both lanes to traffic while the emergency services dealt with the incident which happened in Castle Road, Murston, at 4.20pm on Monday.

Firefighters from Sittingbourne and Medway used hydraulic cutting equipment to take the roof off the silver Audi so paramedics could assess and treat the women, who were in the back seat.

Both patients, believed to be aged 24 and 22, were put in neck braces and removed from the vehicle on long boards as a precaution due to possible back injuries.

The older woman was also suffering from abdomen pain.

Kent Air Ambulance was called, but in the end they were taken by land ambulance to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.

The road reopened at 5.30pm.
