Sittingbourne boss Chris Lynch boosts defence and attack with arrivals of Gillingham youngsters Jimmy Witt and Jay Hards on loan

Sittingbourne have signed two young players on loan from Gillingham.

Full-back Jimmy Witt and striker Jay Hards are the new arrivals and both could feature in the Isthmian South East home game against Ramsgate on Saturday.

Brickies boss Chris Lynch said: “Jimmy’s a real up-and-coming hot prospect at Gillingham.

“I’ve known of him for a little while, he’s been training with the first team and I’m told he’s highly rated there.

“Ben Fitchett’s serving a three-match ban and Jack Smith and Jason Fregene are just back from injury so we needed bolstering in the full-back department.

“The good thing with Jimmy is he’s two-footed so he can play right-back or left-back.

“He passes the ball well, holds it up well and he brings maturity above his years, so I think he’ll be a really good signing for us.

“I don’t know too much about Jay Hards but I’ve heard little bits from Gills.

“I talk to Craig Stone (Gills youth coach) regularly and he told me he thinks Jay’s ready to play.”

Sittingbourne are likely to come up against Roman Campbell when they face Ramsgate this weekend.

Campbell enjoyed two prolific spells on loan with Bourne from Gillingham before a stint at Isthmian Premier Enfield.

However, he’s back in Isthmian South East after joining struggling Rams for a month.

Lynch said: “As far as I’m concerned Roman’s proved himself at these levels.

“He came in last year and finished joint-top scorer in two months and he was on fire when he came back at the start of the season.

“For him to progress he needs different challenges.

“He can’t just go somewhere where it’s easy for him to score and, to be fair, the way we set up suited his style.

“We’re good friends and I speak to his dad regularly. I support him fully going to Ramsgate and I’m sure they will pick up and he’ll score goals for them.

“For us, we know what he’s like, we know what qualities he has and it’s up to Cory Walters-Wright and Lex Allan to deal with him.

“The beauty of it is we know how dangerous he is in certain positions.

“As long as we nullify that threat, hopefully he will have a quiet game against us.”

Sittingbourne suffered a third straight postponement when Sunday’s trip to Phoenix Sports was called off.

The Brickies have also found it difficult to train given all the rain about.

Lynch said: “The weather’s been a nightmare. It’s a challenging time, at a really important time of the season, but I’m sure everyone’s battling the same conditions.

“If you don’t have a 3G facility it’s difficult to train but even the 3G at Sheppey was closed last week.”
