Sittingbourne sign Arsenal community development player Enoch Adjei

Here's something you probably thought you'd never read - Sittingbourne have signed a player from Arsenal.

They've taken right-winger Enoch Adjei from the Gunners' community development side after he impressed against them in last week's friendly.

Boss Chris Lynch said: "He's a really good upcoming right-winger.

"He's been at Millwall, Thamesmead and we've signed him directly from the Arsenal development squad.

"There were a lot of teams in our league and above looking at him, so it's a good little signing for us."

Adjei is one of two new arrivals at Woodstock, with Sittingbourne also signing centre-half Hamilton.

He trained with the Brickies at the end of last season and had been on trial with National League Dover.

Lynch said: "He's been a Conference player - he is a Conference player.

"He had the Dover trial, Braintree were after him and a couple of clubs higher than us were also interested but he's chosen to come here.

"He's big, strong, experienced, but still only 24, and he'll be another good signing.

"We offered him the chance to train with us at the end of last season when he was coming back from injury and he liked what he saw.

"He's prepared to be here for a year.

"Don't get me wrong, if a Conference club comes in and offers him something that's good to turn down, we'll have to let him go.

"But he needs a good year of football to get back on track and, as it stands, that will be with us. I'm really pleased to get him."

Sittingbourne's squad is down to 22, with eight players joining, or set to join, Southern Counties East clubs on dual-registration.

Timmie Babington and Kwasi Amoah have gone to K Sports, Connor Miller and KJ McFarlane have joined Bearsted, Michael Fraser is at Hollands & Blair, while Thomas Ngegba, Jason Mensah and Santa are finalising moves.

Sittingbourne have another friendly with the Arsenal development side lined up on Saturday, this time a behind-closed-door fixture at the Gunners' training ground.

That's followed by Rochester United at home on Tuesday night, with the Isthmian South East campaign starting at Whitstable on August 17.

Lynch said: "It's been a long pre-season. We're the last league to start for some reason."
