Matt Wyatt insists he is no back-stabber after Nick Davis left Sittingbourne on Sunday night.

Brickies have handed Wyatt sole control after telling Davis they no longer wanted to operate with joint-managers.

Wyatt says he has lost a friend after the fall-out, deleting Davis' phone numbers, but denied engineering his exit.

He said: "The committee spoke to me and said they were thinking of going with a sole manager and what were my views.

"I agreed that was the best way forward, whether they chose me, Nick or someone else to be in charge.

"Me and Nick did OK but there were cracks and at times we had disagreements.

"For everyone's benefit - the committee, players, supporters - you need one person in charge.

"I've probably lost a very good friend but I haven't stabbed Nick in the back.

"We spoke on Sunday night and it wasn't the greatest conversation. I've deleted his numbers from my phone."

Davis posted news of his departure on the Sittingbourne fans' forum.

He wrote: "I just want to let the supporters know that with a heavy heart I have been forced to resign my post as joint-manager and player as Matt would like this position solely and had the backing of the board.

"I want to thank you all for your fantastic support and I have loved every minute of playing and managing for this great non-league club."
