Newcomer Peter Smith has already made a big impression at Sittingbourne.

The former VCD man played a key role in helping the Brickies beat Hythe 2-1 on Saturday.

It was Sittingbourne’s first win in six and boss Nick Davis’ maiden victory since returning as manager.

“We needed experience in there and you need that at any level,” said Davis.

“You win or lose games in the centre of midfield. Peter Smith sat in front of the back four and let the others go forward.

“It was a pleasing performance. He broke up play, passed the ball and won his headers.”

At 29, Smith is now Sittingbourne’s oldest player. He joined last week following a brief spell with Thamesmead. Last season he helped VCD win Ryman League Division 1 North.

The Brickies visit bottom side Horsham this Saturday, looking to make amends for a 5-0 midweek defeat at Merstham.
