England's deaf cricketers set for Pakistan showdown

INTERNATIONAL cricket between England and Pakistan is coming to the county, in the form of one-day and Test cricket between sides of deaf players.

They will play a one-day match at the UK Paper sports ground in Gore Court Road, Sittingbourne, on Sunday, starting at 12.30pm, a Test match from Tuesday to Thursday, August 15-17, from 10.30am daily, a Twenty20 game on Friday, August 18, and another one-dayer on Sunday, August 20.

The teams have already met in a series of matches in Essex.

Brian Alexander, who is helping to organise and sponsor the week, said: "The England team is picked from cricketers of a good standard who just happen to be deaf.

"Some of them play Minor Counties’ cricket, or in league cricket in the Midlands. We hope the event will be a success and we would like to stage more events like this in Kent."

The England team played in the World Cup for deaf players in India last year, losing to the hosts in the final in front of 5,000 spectators, having beaten Australia in the semi-final.
