Budget constraints mean Sittingbourne boss Matt Wyatt is targeting the Kent Invicta League for new talent.

But Wyatt is thriving on the challenge of pitting his unfancied side, who beat Ramsgate 2-0 on Tuesday night, against the Ryman League Division 1 South’s big spenders.

He said: “With the budget we have had we should be in the bottom three.

“We’ve put a seven-day approach in for a player from the Kent Invicta League this week and we will see how that goes.

“I probably have four or five calls a week from players with Ryman League experience, asking if we can give them a chance. When I ask how much they want, they say £70-£80 (per week). I tell them we might as well move on.

“There are four or five teams in the Kent League with bigger budgets than us.”

Despite the limitations, Wyatt has assembled a squad which have competed well so far.

He said: “Money doesn’t bring success but it does bring consistency. I am highly delighted with where we are in the league."
