A single fire engine attended the scene in Great Chart and the crew spent just under an hour battling the flames.

A photo shows firefighters examining the burnt frame of the vehicle – which had pulled off the road into a layby – after extinguishing the last of the fire.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported – however the car was damaged beyond repair.

A fire service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.36pm yesterday to reports of a car alight on the A28 Great Chart, Ashford.

“One fire engine attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet.

“No injuries were reported, and it is believed the fire started accidentally due to a fault.”
