The pictures, by Chris Lawson, were taken in Norton Lane, Bethersden, between Ashford and Tenterden, at about 1.15pm today.

Motorists were stopped in their tracks and could only watch as the machinery was destroyed by the inferno.

Firefighters swiftly put out the flames in just over 15 minutes and were at the scene for another 45 minutes carrying out tasks such as damping down.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman told KentOnline: "One fire engine was sent to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the flames.

"No casualties were reported.

"The cause is believed to be accidental."
