Opening date announced for Domino’s Pizza set to open in former Lloyds Bank in Tenterden High Street

The opening date has been announced for a town’s first Domino’s.

The takeaway giant will be opening its first site in Tenterden later this year after plans were approved for it to take over the former Lloyds Bank in the high street in November.

The chain revealed its intentions with a planning application in the summer.

It won permission to turn the ground floor into a takeaway, complete with a kitchen, dry store, customer area and ventilation.

The plans prompted a number of objections, with several residents raising fears over its suitability for the high street and fears over noise, smell and disturbances.

The former bank has been empty for almost seven years.

Although residents said they felt the pizza shop would damage the character of their “unique” town and should not have been allowed permission to move into a former high street bank, it will open next month.

Work has already begun at the unit which will see the installation of ventilation systems to limit issues around cooking odours.

The outlet will be open from 11am until 11pm.

A Domino’s spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to be opening a new store in Tenterden in May, bringing our fresh homemade pizzas to even more loyal customers.”

Last month, New Romney got its first Domino’s with the takeaway branch also opening inside the town’s former Lloyds Bank.

The firm, which has preserved the bank’s horse emblem at the top of the building, says it will employ 40 staff, including cooks, delivery drivers and other staff.
